A Turkish woman and her children were detained at Dover on arrival in the UK in the back of a lorry in the UK – she came to join her husband who had indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

During the 8 days in cramped conditions in the lorry, she developed an abscess on her thigh. Her repeated requests for medical help were denied until she was eventually taken by ambulance to hospital where she died four days later from septicemia/ necrotising fasciitis after undergoing two operations.

A medical opinion provided to the inquest indicated that had she been taken to hospital earlier, she would, on the balance of probabilities, have survived
