Our network of medical professionals, lawyers, ex-detainees, detention centre visitors and others facilitates the provision of independent medical advice and legal representation to detainees. We also seek to negotiate changes to policy and practice within detention centres. Medical Justice handles about 1,000 cases a year with the help of a network of volunteer medics and 3 non-medical support staff. Many more detainees need help but we do not have enough medics. This is particularly the case in Scotland, where we would love to establish a network of volunteers to visit asylum seekers in Dungavel Detention Centre. If you are interested in visiting detainees in Scotland, or volunteering with Medical Justice in other ways, please contact Dr. Kate Wrigley on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Potential volunteers in England can contact Emma Ginn on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it New volunteers will receive support and training from volunteers experienced in detention visits and writing medicolegal reports. We welcome volunteers from different specialities and all stages in training. We look forward to hearing from you, Kate Wrigley |
