Medical Justice negotiates changes to Home Office polcies on healthcare provision in immigration detention centres.  Negotiated changes make the policiess less harmful to immigration detainees.

We are currently negotiating with the Home Office ;

Guidance for management of medical care of hungerstrikers
When implemnted, the guidelines will apply to the enire prison estate, not just immigration detention centres.

Where responsibility lies for identifying mental health problems
The Home Office claim that it is the responsibility of detainees with mental health problems to bring these to the attention of detention centre healthcare staff. We are negotiating to ensure that this responsibility lies, as it should, with those detention centre healthcare staff, to identify such patients and provide appropriate care.
