Ms Y's asylum claim was refused by the Home Office.

Like many others, her solicitor failed to turn up in the immigration court for her asylum appeal.

The fact that she claims she was abducted, raped and tortured was not mentioned in the appeal hearing. Her appeal dismissed, Ms Y was under imminent threat of removal, along with her British-born son.

Supporters raised £600 for a Medico-Legal Report - this enabled Ms Y to get a new solicitor who made further representations on her behalf which got her back into the legal process.

Ms Y was later awarded Discretionary Leave to Remain.
