Have you been detained by the Immigration Service? Would you be willing to talk about your experience of detention health care? A group of Members of Parliament are investigating the issue of health care in detention. This is part of work being done by the UK AIDS and Human Rights Project and the All Party Parliamentary Group on AIDS, conducting an audit of HIV-related rights in the UK*. Delphine Valette, who is the consultant on the audit, would like to give people who have been detained the chance to speak about their experiences trying to access health care whilst in detention. A focus group, supported by Bail for Immigration Detainees and Medical Justice At: African HIV Policy Network o All those with experience of health services in immigration detention are welcome (although the group is being organised by the AIDS and Human Rights project, they are interested in all experiences of health care in detention, not just those of people who are HIV+) o There will not be any MPs at the focus group, but the experiences you describe will be fed back to MPs by Delphine Valette. o The information provided will be used to inform the report. It will be made anonymous, and you can say if you don't want information included in the report. o Expenses to travel to the meeting will be paid. o Signs will indicate where the group is taking place. o Food and drinks provided. If you would like to attend, or if you would like to find out more, please contact: Sarah Cutler at BID on 07962 460956

*The audit is looking at specific issues, including sex work, prisons, asylum and immigration and children. Through research, written evidence provided by organisations and individuals and Parliamentary Hearings, this project will provide a comprehensive and accurate account of the impact of Governmental policies on HIV-related rights and will be used as an advocacy tool to stimulate legal and policy reform. |
