Responsibility for healthcare in Immigration Detention PDF Print E-mail
Written by Emma Ginn
Operation of seven out of the ten “Removal Centres” is sub-contracted by the Home Office to private profit-making companies – including the multi-national GSL (Global Solutions Ltd, formerly known as Group4).

They in turn sub-contract health care to a second private profit making company.

The Home Office, with whom ultimate responsibility lies, does not employ any doctor to advise it on healthcare in immigration detention.

The other three “removal centres” are converted criminal prisons, run by the Prison Service and healthcare responsibility lies with the NHS.
