How consulting an independent doctor can/has helped detainees. Part 1 - Clinical 10:00 -1130h 1. PTSD 2. Other mental health problems in detention: 3. Physical evidence of torture: 4. Physical health problems in detainees and what to look for in the general clinical examination. Discussion, followed by break Part 2 - Admin + communication 1150 - 1320h 5. The referral process and working as part of a team 6. Arranging the medical visit and getting into IRCs; ensuring a proper consulting room. 7. Visiting as a new doctor 8. Using the medical records 9. Communicating with IRC healthcare staff - in urgent situations, as well as generally 10. Consulting with detainees on the phone Discussion, followed by lunch break Part 3 - Medico-Legal 1400 - 1530 11. Writing the report - letters, Dr's statement, and formal MLRs 12. Working with lawyers 13. When there is no lawyer 14.
