Supporting immigration detainees to secure adequate legal advice and representation

This workshop will be delivered by Steve Symonds, Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association, and has been jointly organised with Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID)

Workshop aim:
People in detention are particularly vulnerable to poor quality or abusive legal representation and advice. This workshop is targeted at those who are working with people in detention, with the aim of
-    sharing experiences and identifying obstacles detainees face in seeking redress
-    learning more about how to support detainees to complain.

The workshop will cover:
•    What to expect from a legal representative
•    How to identify who you can complain to about what
•    Processes for making complaints
•    Practical advice on collecting information together, writing complaint letters and following up complaints
