Project : Mental Health Problems in Ex-Detainee Asylum Seekers PDF Print E-mail
Written by Emma Ginn
Wanted : Ex-Detainees to participate in this study.

Studies in other countries suggest that asylum seekers often have mental health problems and that the experience of detention in the host country may increase the risk and severity of such problems. We are trying to see whether this is the case for asylum seekers in the UK.

If you agree to take part in the project we would ask you to fill in some questionnaires concerning your asylum situation, your experience of detention and your mental health. We would also interview you briefly to obtain more detailed information about your mental health.

The process should take about 1 to 1.5 hours and will take place in a mutually convenient location, usually in London.

All reasonable expenses will be repaid.

You may find it distressing to talk about painful experiences or symptoms. You may however find the process helpful. Participation in the study is entirely voluntary and you can decide at any time to withdraw your agreement. This would have no effect at all on any care or support you are receiving. We are hoping to publish the results of the study, but individual information will be anonymised to protect your confidentiality.

If you have are interested in taking part please contact the project leader, Professor Cornelius Katona ; This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 07966 173903.

If you know anyone else who might be interested in taking part, please pass on this information.

THANK YOU!!
