Home Office healthcare policy, including:

  • On Entry - Referral of passengers by the immigration officer to the port medical officer
  • After entry/referred entry clearance - persons suffering from serious illness
  • After entry - removal of psychiatric in-patients
  • Inoculations and other preventative treatment (prophylaxis) for persons being removed from the UK

Note : after much Medical Justice lobbying and intervention in patients' legal cases, the Home Office changed it's policy on the provision of anti-malarials which is included below.

Feb/07 - IMMIGRATION DIRECTORATES' INSTRUCTIONS - SECTION CONTENTS - CHAPTER 1 SECTION 8 - MEDICAL

On Entry - Referral of passengers by the immigration officer to the port medical officer, including:

  • Classes of persons to be medically examined
  • Persons suffering from AIDS, HIV infection or other serious illness
  • Examination for pregnancy
  • Handicapped children
  • Suicide threat from a person refused entry
  • Medical examination after entry

After entry/referred entry clearance - persons suffering from serious illness, including:

  •  Human Rights Act
  • Issues concerning children

After entry - removal of psychiatric in-patients, including:

  • Powers under the Mental Health Acts
  • Warrant for removal

Inoculations and other preventative treatment (prophylaxis) for persons being removed from the UK, including:

  • Malaria Prophylaxis
  • Countries and Territories with Malarious Areas
  • Table Giving Appropriate Regimes for the Various Malaria Prophylaxes
  • TB
