Helping detainees in need of medical assistance

If You Are a Supporter or Visitor

If you think that a detainee has been tortured or has significant health problems which are getting worse in detention, and would benefit from a visit from an independent doctor, you can use the online referral form. Give as much detail as you can about what you have observed when visiting them and why you are concerned. The more information you can give, the better we can process the referral. ‘Mr X is very depressed’’ is not very useful because it means different things to different people. Please try to complete all the boxes in the referral form, even if it’s just “n/a” (non applicable).

"When I first became aware of immigration detention in the UK, I was shocked to learn that people not serving any criminal sentence can be deprived of liberty indefinitely. Through becoming involved with Medical Justice, I learned that there is a way to reach through the barbed wire fences and provide detainees with an independent medical assessment report."
