Medical Justice aims to eradicate medical mistreatment in immigration detention. We are the only organisation in the UK dedicated to sending independent volunteer clinicians to asses immigration detainees, document their medical evidence of torture, other serious medical conditions, injuries sustained during attempts to remove them from the UK, and to challenge any instances of inadequate healthcare. We deal with 1,000 referrals a year. We have 7 members of staff a dedicated team of volunteers – 80 clinicians and 100 interpreters.
Medical evidence from our casework forms the basis of our research which documents the toxic effect of immigration detention on detainees. We work for lasting change through policy, parliamentary and media work, strategic litigation and through galvanised medical professionals.
Medical Justice vacancy : Caseworker for 1 year maternity leave cover
Our Casework Manager will be on maternity leave from mid February. Her managerial responsibilities will be split within the existing casework team and we are hiring an additional Caseworker on a temporary basis.
The deadline is 9am Monday 4th December. Shortlisted candidates will be notified Tuesday 5th December. Interviews will be held on Friday 8th and Tuesday 12th December 2017. The ideal start-date will be mid January 2018.
Job Title : Caseworker
Salary : £22,000 – £24,000, depending on experience
Reports to : Casework Manager / Acting Casework Managers
Job purpose : The purpose of the caseworker role is to enable Medical Justice to assist individual detainees in immigration detention by organising independent medical assessments and providing additional support to enable the detainee to fully benefit from the Medical Report.
Working hours : Full time
Where based : Medical Justice office in Finsbury Park, London. The post holder will be expected to attend some external meetings as agreed with the Casework Manager / Acting Casework Managers.
Length of contract : 1 year maternity leave cover, with possible renewal if funding available.
Terms : 24 days per annum pro-rata holiday, plus statutory bank holidays and 4 additional days’ holiday associated with bank holidays which may be decided on by your manager. Other conditions as statutory requirements.
