Job Purpose : To support and develop our communications strategy, build a higher profile for Medical Justice and raise awareness about the harm of immigration detention and inadequate healthcare for detainees.
Salary : £26,000 pro-rata with an annual increase of £500 for 5 years and pension contribution
Reports to : The Director
Working hours : 5 days a week, though 4 days or 5 short days also considered (e.g. 10am to 4.30pm)
Where based : In the Medical Justice office, near Finsbury Park, London. The post holder will be expected to attend external and out of hours events occasionally.
Length of contract : 2 years, with renewal if funding available. The probation period will be 6 months.
Terms : 24 days per annum holiday, plus statutory bank holidays and 4 additional days’ holiday associated with bank holidays which may be decided on by your manager (usually associated with the office closure during Christmas and New Year). Other conditions as statutory requirements.
Background : The Communications Co-ordinator will support and develop our communications strategy, build a higher profile for Medical Justice by highlighting its successes to funders, potential volunteers, NGOs that we want to collaborate with, and lawyers we want to inspire. Working in conjunction with the rest of the team, the Communications Co-ordinator will raise awareness of the harms of immigration detention to targeted audiences through mainstream and the medical media, though Medical Justice does not aim to become an awareness raising campaign per se. This is a new role which Medical Justice will develop with the right person.
